Awards
Every second meeting is an Awards evening. We have a different theme for each one and members are invited
to take a few images to fit the theme in the weeks leading up to that Awards evening (or select from their archives
if they already have suitable photos) and bring them along to the meeting. The themes are deliberately
set to be as wide-ranging as possible so everyone can use their imagination to come up with their own
interpretation. For example, a theme of, say, "Windows" could see images ranging from quaint cottages to
computer operating systems!!
For more details of the themes in the current programme, please take a look on the Meetings
page.
We display all submitted photographs without identifying who took them, and ask everyone, members and guests, to
decide for themselves which of four categories they would place each image in to. It is NOT
a competition to see who has the best picture, it is a measure of the appeal each image has for the
people there, looking at things like composition, technical merit and artistic interpretation.
Everyone marks each image as achieving
- No Award - thanks for bringing it but this one doesn't quite merit being given an
award.
- Bronze Award - a very appealing image, worthy of a little recognition.
- Silver Award - an excellent image, well above the
average and deserving of special recognition.
- Gold Award - an exceptional image with the WOW factor.
Very few images ever get this top accolade but we can all aspire.
The "Rules" for submitting images are not too onerous as we want to attract entries from
everyone, whatever their level of skill with a camera, but in order to provide a level standard for judging:
You can submit up to two entries per award evening
All entries must be your own work
The same image may not be entered for more than one competition
All entries should be mounted but not framed
The maximum size of the mount should be no more than 400mm x 500mm
At least one entry should be a single photograph that is no larger than A4
Your second entry may be another single image up to A4 or it could be more creative in presentation.
This could include multiple images (collage, montage, triptych etc.), it can be any size, shape or colour you
choose, the mount may be decorated, whatever. This is your opportunity to be as creative and open-minded
as you dare!!!
